Standards and Expectations
Hewens College is committed to raising standards and improving levels of achievement.
Promoting good behaviour so that all our students are focused on learning is a very important aspect of raising standards and has a direct and positive impact on teaching, learning and attainment.
The Hewens College Behaviour for Learning Strategy sets out clear expectations of good behaviour and focuses on encouraging self-discipline in an atmosphere of mutual respect and tolerance. This approach places a far greater emphasis on rewarding good behaviour and achievement and motivates all students to take on positive roles within their lessons or form activities.
With the quality of teaching together with leadership and management, all judged to be good by Ofsted, recent public examination results were once again some of the best in the history of this educational establishment. Hewens College is duty-bound to provide outstanding education and make a genuine difference to the lives of its students through high quality teaching and learning.
Teachers have high expectations and aspirations for pupils to achieve. Pupils respond well to their teachers and discuss their learning. This is of particular strength in English, where pupils, including the most able read well and can often describe the deeper meaning of the text they use." (Ofsted, 2015)
Expectations are high and students have challenging targets…there is a relentless focus in lessons on achievement, ensuring that students accelerate their progress.” (Ofsted, 2012)
