Year 8 Forensic Challenge at Brunel University! 2/10/17
On Monday 2nd October, a group of Year 8 students attended an exciting forensic challenge at Brunel University.
The challenge involved the students competing against five other local schools to unravel a fictional mystery surrounding a man who had been found dead in a secluded car park on the outskirts of a town. The team had to analyse the crime scene and carry out forensic tests as well as understand and evaluate statements by potential suspects to determine how he died and whether it was a murder, accident or suicide.
The students were required to work collectively for the investigation, however each student was assigned to a specific job role. They learnt the basic forensic techniques such as toxicology investigation, fingerprinting and DNA fingerprinting as they worked to solve the mystery.
Their outstanding detective skills and hard work saw them beat all the others schools competing in the challenge and secure first place. Well done to all the students who took part!
