Year 7 Football Match against Guru Nanak Sikh Academy 22/01/18

On Monday 22nd January, The Rosedale Hewens Academy Trust (TRHAT) Year 7 football team, demonstrated a fantastic comeback in their first game away against the Guru Nanak Sikh Academy. The team were slow to start and soon found themselves 1 - 0 down after some clever work from the Guru Nanak striker. TRHAT team were applying the pressure and looked to equalise but were not getting the bounce of the ball in the first half, with Sonny Maughan (7M), Malik Bernard-Thomas (7T) and Jayden Stewart (Rosedale) all frustrated by attempts at goal blocked by the Guru Nanak defence, however just before half time Guru Nanak made it 2-0 with a classic counter attacking goal.

Due to the fantastic tactical decisions of Mr Spencer and Mr Hobday at half time, changing the formation and introducing Andre Builimar (Rosedale) among others, TRHAT team burst into life in the second half with Andre proving instrumental in the first two goals. First, a dangerous cross from the right hand side by Andre caused mayhem in the Guru Nanak box and was turned in by their defender, then Andre soon equalised with a great strike to finish off a flowing team move. Sonny Maughan (7M) soon swept home a third goal with ease to complete the comeback and Wasim Brahim (Rosedale) got in on the act with a great finish from close range.

It was left to captain fantastic Sonny to complete the scoring at 5-2, finishing off a great move through the legs of the Guru Nanak goalkeeper after some truly outrageous individual skill by Tamim Haddar (7T) in the build-up.  The team defended resiliently after getting back in the game with Guru Nanak finding it impossible to get past Jayden Stewart, who was a man mountain in defence, even clearing a cross off his own crossbar!

The boys played fantastically well with Sonny Maughan picking up the man of the match award. After the game Mr Spencer had this to say:

"The boys worked incredibly hard in the second half to get themselves back into this game and they should be proud, they’ve pulled off arguably the greatest comeback since Liverpool vs Milan in 2005. Let’s hope this form continues into future games"
