Jack Petchey Workshop 7/10/19
On Friday 27th September, the top set of our Year 10 English students took part in the annual Jack Petchey ‘Speak Out’ Workshop. The day-long event saw the students undertake various activities to enhance their confidence to verbally express themselves and build up their public speaking ability. After some warm-ups to get their creative juices flowing, the students then had to think of a topic on which they could speak, without a script, in front of their peers and the facilitator from the Jack Petchey foundation. All of the students came on leaps and bounds throughout the session and by the final activity, some produced speeches that were awe inspiring, emotive and humorous.
The most thought-provoking topics included: ‘Be proud of where you come from’, ‘It’s the little things in life that count’ and ‘Family are the most precious item that we can have’. Students who have been selected to go through to the next round include Edward Reid, Leonidas Potsis, Zarek Hossain, Hadiyya Edah Tally and Bhavjot Longani, all of whom will go on to speak in front of students in Key Stage 3 in an assembly which will determine the individual who will go through to represent Hewens College in the upcoming regional final. Well done to all of our students who took part in the workshop!
