Cross-Curricular Learning in Food Technology 18/10/21

Year 8 students have been embedding Mathematics into their Food Technology lessons by working out Mathematical questions to get the correct measurements in grams.

Working in pairs, they collaborated to use the key skills they had developed over the term for both subjects. This involved measuring ingredients to the correct level of proportions and the appropriate ratios in order for them to produce their dish to the required standard and to avoid derailing the preparation. To their amazement, the students acknowledged how crucial Mathematics is in food preparation as well as the other cross-curricular links there are, and how these are incorporated into the food industry.

Their next journey will involve aspects of Geography and History to enable them to understand the important role culture and tradition play in our everyday choices.
