Hewens College is an inclusive college that provides education for children aged 11 to 19 and is committed to creating a learning environment where every student can make good progress and achieve their fullest potential. In conversation with the parents and carers they were full of praise for the “Total support given to both us and our young people.” Parents particularly praised the support they receive for students with special needs. It was clear at verification that Hewens has considerable one to one support in place for parents as well as the students. There is a well advertised and well used weekly surgery for parents and carers on a Thursday between 5:00pm and 6:00pm.
The college has a clear development plan with a key focus on the development of parent partnership led by Rachel Wall who is clearly passionate about this aspect of her work as a member of the senior leadership team.
The vision is embodied in the 6 Rs, as with all the schools and colleges in the Hewens Rosedale trust, is prominently displayed. The LPPA is prominently displayed in the reception area. The College’s physical environment is a work in progress, so variable, as the college site is being improved. The reception arrangements are very good. Welcoming, professional reception staff, comfortable seating and information all in place.
Early Closure Thursday and Friday This Week at 2:00pm
UPDATED: WEDNESDAY 24TH JUNE 2026 AT 12:30PM
Due to the continued high temperatures, the college will close early at 2:00pm on both Thursday and Friday. This decision has been made to prioritise the health and wellbeing of our school community during the hottest part of the day. We recognise that this adjustment may present challenges for some families. For parents, guardians and carers who are unable to collect their child at this earlier time, please contact the college, as we will be able to provide appropriate supervision and support. We will continue to monitor weather conditions closely and make any necessary adjustments. The health, safety, and wellbeing of our pupils and students remain our highest priority. To support the comfort and wellbeing of all pupils and students, please continue to adhere to the following measures: Blazers and ties are not required • Pupils and students are encouraged to wear their PE kit • Pupils and students should bring a full water bottle to remain hydrated throughout the day • Pupils and students are advised to apply sun cream before they leave for school.
